Typical Communications Starting Point Multiple channels, fragmented access Video Cost Rigid Mobile Telephony Multiple infrastructures Fixed Telephony Enterprise communications today: Most enterprises rely on a number of different channels and applications for communicating internally and externally: telephony (fixed, mobile), e-mail, fax, video conferencing, instant messaging, SMS, collaboration systems, CRM, etc., etc. Some companies prefer telephony as their main Communication channel whereas others may use e-mail and instant messaging as their most important Communication channels. The choice of Communication channels depends on company culture, the specific industry sector, country and many other things. Each channel has it’s own characteristic and relies on specific systems and architectures. Furthermore, companies today inherit or build multiple communications infrastructures. The main problem for enterprises today is that they have to maintain most existing Communication channels to guarantee efficient running of their business. However, this is a difficult and expensive task as most Communication channels are rigid, stand-alone solutions and little integration exists between them. Integrated Enterprise Communication& Collaboration System for Voice, Video & Data One common infrastructure Higher degree of variable costs Comprehensive cost control More flexibility Full control and manageability Standardized hardware and software The vision – unified communications: Fully integrated enterprise Communicationssystem based on a common standardized platform, enhancing functionality for end-users and improving systems management and security. End-users can use their device (and network) of choice for any type of Communicationsand messaging, only limited by devices capabilities (e.g. no camera = no video conferencing). A common interface to the system will facilitate how employees work and make it much more intuitive compared to previous systems. Lower fixed costs due to fewer individual (proprietary) system platforms and consolidated networks. Higher degree of variable costs because of new and more flexible communications traffic billing schemes. Improved systems flexibility both technically and financially will make the system more adaptable to business or organizational changes. Furthermore upgrades and extensions will be easier and more manageable with the use of standardized software and hardware platforms.
