Foundation High School Plan The purpose of the FHSP graduation plan is to…. Instill flexibility in public education by enabling students to either pursue a traditional path into colleges and universities or move directly into the workforce (ex. Welding, Cosmetology certifications). An Endorsement is similar to a college major. Completion of an Endorsement will allow students to graduate from high school with knowledge and/or experience in the college major they wish to pursue. Students can earn an endorsement in one of the following areas: STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) Business and Industry Public Services Arts and Humanities Multidisciplinary Studies Foundation High School Plan

Public Service Endorsement Students who desire to make a lasting contribution to society by serving their fellow man should consider the public service endorsement. Education & Training Health Science Human Services JROTC Science  Law, Public Safety, Corrections, & Securities For more information on course sequencing please visit: http://tinyurl.com/cteflowchart

Business & Industry Endorsement Students can write their own ticket to success in the business and industry endorsement. Agriculture, Food & Natural Resources Information Technology Manufacturing Architecture/Construction Marketing Arts, AV, Tech, Communications Transportation, Distribution, and Logistics English Finance Business Management & Hospitality & Tourism Administration For more information on course sequencing please visit: http://tinyurl.com/cteflowchart

Fine Arts  LOTE (Languages Other Than English) Social Studies For more information on course sequencing please visit: http://tinyurl.com/cteflowchart

Engineering Math Science STEM Endorsement Students pursuing a STEM endorsement must take algebra II as their third math course and they must choose chemistry and physics as 2 of their science courses. Engineering Math Science For more information on course sequencing please visit: http://tinyurl.com/cteflowchart

Core Course Advance Course Multidisciplinary Endorsement A multi-disciplinary endorsement will build a broad-based education.  This endorsement is not geared toward any particular career but will allow students to design their own program and explore more than one area of interest.  Core Course Advance Course For more information on course sequencing please visit: http://tinyurl.com/cteflowchart

How will colleges view the new graduation requirements? FOUNDATION HIGH SCHOOL PLAN It is VERY important for parents and students to check the specific admission requirements for any college a student may be interested in attending. How will colleges view the new graduation requirements?

English I English II Algebra I Biology US History All students must meet at least the Level II Standard on all five (5) EOCs to meet graduation requirements. 12

Core Class Selection ADVANCED CLASSES Pre-AP / AP / Honors / Dual Credit Available in most subject areas Teacher input is valuable in making this decision Prepare for college May earn college credits through Dual Credit courses and/or AP exams Who should take Advanced classes? Students who are: Self-motivated Hard-working Challenge-seeking Capable of handling faster pace Willing to invest extra time, but still keep a BALANCE Planning to pursue a highly competitive field Core Class Selection

Core Class Selection Dual Credit (D) Advanced Placement (AP) Students may receive college credit only if they take the AP exam and score a 3 or higher on the exam. AP courses and exams do not qualify as dual credit. There is a fee ($90 average cost) to take a AP exam for college credit. Check the AP credit policy at the college of choice to confirm what score is required in order to award credit. Students may receive college credit if they pass the course with a college grade of a “C”. Core Class Selection

Dual Credit/AP Comparison  Advanced Placement (AP)  Dual Credit  Description The AP Program allows students to take college-level courses and exams while in high school. A strong score on the culminating exam may result in college credit or placement. Dual Credit allows high school students to earn both high school and college credit . In order to earn college credit, the course must be passed with a C or higher.  Credit College credit may be awarded depending on the student’s score on the AP examination. Individual colleges and universities, not the College Board or the AP Program, determine course credit and placement. High school and college credit through Lone Star College (LSC) is awarded when the student passes the course.  College/ University Acceptance Accepted at thousands of universities around the world. Typically requires a score of 3 or higher on the AP exam. Students should check with their chosen universities to see if AP credit may be awarded. Accepted at public (and some private) colleges and universities in Texas as well as many outside of Texas. Requires semester average of C or better for transferability. Students should check with their chosen universities to see if Dual credit may be awarded.  Eligibility Open to any high school student. Must meet college readiness standard scores on the Accuplacer, or earn exemptions with SAT, ACT, or STAAR scores. Dual Credit/AP Comparison

Students earn 0.5 credit for each class they successfully pass each semester. Students can average to pass to regain credit Example: 1st semester = 65 (earns no credit) 2nd semester = 75 (earns 0.5 credit) Average for the semester = 70 (regain 0.5 credit from 1st semester) Students must earn 6 credits at the end of their 9th grade year to be classified as a Sophomore. Students must earn 12 credits at the end of their 10th grade year to be classified a Junior. Course Basics
