Mary Ann Hoberman By Seohye Lee

Introduce the poet Mary Ann Hoberman is a poet who writes poems for children.

Where did she born She was born on August 12, 1930 in Stamford.

Her schools She attended the Stamford public schools. She received B.A. in history from Smith College. 35 years later, M.A. in English Literature from Yale University.

Mary Ann Hoberman’s life Mary Ann Hoberman married Norman Hoberman-who is an architect and artist. They have 4 children and 5 grandchildren.

Mary ann hoberman’s poems Mary Ann Hoberman’s famous poem books : <A House is a House for Me>, <The Seven Silly Eaters>, and <You Read to Me, I’ll Read to You>.

Mary ann hoberman’s poem-squirrel Grey squirrel Small beast Storing up a winter's feast, Hides a hundred nuts at least. When the snow is piled up high And the year is at December, Can he really sNook and cranny stocked with seed Tucked away for winter's need. Acorns stuck in hole and crack. Will he ever get them back? till remember Where he hid them in September? I have watched him from my window And he always seems to know Where the food he hid is waiting Buried deep beneath the snow. And I wonder (Do you wonder?) How he knows where he must go.

Her famous poems The thick black pythons Are braided tight together. GAZELLE O gaze on the graceful gazelle as it grazes It grazes on green growing leaves and on grasses On grasses it grazes, go gaze as it passes It passes so gracefully, gently, O gaze! PYTHONS The thick black pythons Are braided tight together. How do they untwine?

The role(importance) of poet She has received many awards like <National Book Award>, <Poetry for Children>, and <Award for Excellence in Poetry for Children> Mary Ann Hoberman’s poems are fun and short, so lots of children read her poems.

My favorite poem by Mary Ann Hoberman “Tiger” is my favourite poem of her. It is funny poem with a great rhyme.

conclusion I chose Mary Ann Hoberman for my presentation because her poem <Brother> was very impressive. It has such a good rhyme, it is funny, and not very serious. Her poems are perfect for children. I hope she can write more good poems for children even though she is 86 years old!
