Achieve YOUR Dreams Developing the Total Student Athlete My Transcript OWN YOUR GPA 3+ Project Fulfilling the dream for a college athletic career is determined FIRST by one’s academics. Proper academics success skills begin in pre-school, are modeled during elementary, and solidified in middle school. The level of success during the middle school years has a direct connection to the level of success in high school and these skills and habits are the foundation for college preparation. Ones’ level of high school academic success will have direct impact on their college opportunities. Achieve a 3.0 or higher GPA with every report card. Fulfill the 3+ Protect because closer the GPA to a 4.0, the more college athletic opportunities one will earn. Student athletes must WIN ALL FOUR years in every HS classroom. The most important game is the 9th grade, first semester report card. Academic Skills for Success Learning Style http://www.literacynet.org/mi/assessment/findyourstrengths.html Know your individual learning style and study based on your style. Daily Homework/Studying Complete school work at home everyday. Yes, studying for a test is homework. Create a study area where you can focus and not be distracted. Reading Textbooks/Handouts Reading class material is also homework. Comprehending and reading to learn is a critical skill to master. This reading is also an aspect of ACT/SAT test preparations. Daily Reading – Reading at grade-level must increase with every day promotion. Reading level will determine ACT/SAT test score. – MS investment. Tutoring Resources – Help is always available. KHAN ACADEMY is an exceptional on-line tutoring. Peer tutoring, one on one with your teacher. I their is care one will ask for help. https://www.khanacademy.org/ Use Planner / Daily Schedule Writing down homework and creating a checklist will help with assignment completion. Create a daily and weekly schedule that includes your study time, practices, games, reading and social activities. Service Learning / Community Service – Giving back but also learning about oneself through service – The REFLECTION piece. A major aspect for the college application process. Scholarships available for student volunteer. Organization/Binder Maintaining an organized binder is critical for academic success and assignment completion. The system must have a specific section for each class. Pocket folders may be needed to keep track of handouts. Achieve YOUR Dreams ACT / SAT TEST Prep – It’s never too early to practice. No later then 10th grade. 47% of ACT Math is Elementary algebra. Character / Leadership – Make one self unique. A major aspect for the college admissions process and recruiting.
