Photographs taken by Alva M. Hartry Subject: Mary A. White Closeup Wide Environmental Photographs taken by Alva M. Hartry
Description of Subject and Portraits The subject in the portrait is my mother, Ms. Mary A. White. She was born on November 2, 1928. She recently gracefully aged to 80 years old. She was born in Wetumpka, Alabama, to the parents of Leila Bell and Homer Hunter. She was raised in West Point, Georgia. My mother is the eldest of three girls. Her health is excellent with the exception of rheumatoid arthritis. Her mental state is exceptional. She has memory like an encyclopedia. She recently broke her hip and shoulder, but that has not handicapped her. She is still as vibrant as ever. However, with age, she has lost bone structure, so her height is now about 5 feet tall. I chose to photograph my mother because I think that she has the most detail features (deep cheek bones and fine facial lines). The close-up photo will show that. The lines in her neck are very distinct and her check bones are well defined. The environmental portrait was taken in the kitchen of my house. I chose to take this picture of her in the kitchen because preparing her daily meal is her favorite daily activity.
