Guided Pathways “…to create clearly defined, educationally coherent pathways into and through programs of study...” John Fink

Guided Pathways Essential Practices The four dimensions of the Pathways Model, together with essential practices under each, are the following: Create clear curricular pathways to employment and further education. Help students choose and enter a program pathway. Keep students on a path. Ensure that students are learning along their path.

Clarify Paths To Student End Goals Simplify students’ choices with default program maps developed by faculty and advisors that show students a clear pathway to completion, further education and employment in fields of importance to the region. Establish transfer pathways through alignment of pathway courses and expected learning outcomes with transfer institutions, to optimize applicability of community college credits to university majors.

Help Students Stay On A Path Support students through a strong advising process, embedded and ongoing in the pathway experience and supported by appropriate technology, to help students make informed choices, strengthen clarity about transfer and career opportunities at the end of their chosen college path, ensure they develop an academic plan with predictable schedules, monitor their progress, and intervene when they go off track. Embed academic and non-academic supports throughout students’ programs to promote student learning and persistence.

What is the Pathways Model? The Pathways Model is designed to guide students from a point of entry through attainment of postsecondary certifications and degrees that lead to health careers with value in the labor market. The Pathways Model provides program maps – which include specific course sequences that are aligned to progress the student into the healthcare workforce and to the next level of education in a given healthcare field.

Meta-Majors:

Health Career Program Maps Students explore academic and career options. Choose a program of study. Develop a plan based on program maps. The program maps help students stay on track and complete their programs more efficiently. The program maps ensure that students are building the skills across their programs that ensure they will succeed in employment and further education.

Program Maps ADVANTAGES: Map all programs by target career and transfer outcomes. Customized educational plans. Map course sequences, critical courses, embedded credentials, and progress milestones. Map math and other core coursework aligned to each program of study. Option to build pathways into high school dual credit programs. Limits wandering and improves completion.
