You are a Business… You are a Brand… You must build a Plan…

You must first build a Plan If I’m a Brand… Then what is my best route to Market… Who is my target consumer… How do I get my Brand in Front of this consumer… You must first build a Plan

Building the Plan Do you have what it takes Do I really want to be an official Am I ready to make sacrifices Do I have thick enough skin Conduct your SWOT Strengths Weaknesses Opportunities Threats Plan your actions What Strengths do I have to capitalize on What Weaknesses should I address & How What Opportunities currently exist or can I create Who can I have as a mentor What can peers offer Gain Feedback on progress Update your plan

Do you have “It” Can I develop “It” Building the Plan The First Question to ask yourself is; What are Assignors/Coordinators Looking for? Do you have “It” Can I develop “It” Formula for “IT” (Passion + Confidence + Perspective + Knowledge + Motivation + Humility + Communication) (Judgement + Professionalism + Appearance + Mobility + Demeanor + Hustle + Approachability) (Availability + Dependability + Coachability + Reliability) + (Courage) + (Timing) “IT”

Building the Plan Conduct your SWOT Strengths Physically Fit Rules Flexible Job Continuous Learner Love the Game Played the Game Weaknesses Rules Mechanics Hustle Didn’t play the game Not a good listener Communication Opportunities Physically Fitness Rules Knowledge or articulation More Coachable Learn the game Timing Threats Availability Job Flexibility Mobility Reliability Location

Building the Plan Elements Plan your actions What Strengths do I have to capitalize on What Weaknesses should I address & How What Opportunities currently exist or can I create Who can I have as a mentor What can peers offer Action Plan-Sample Strategies Work Scrimmages with Experienced Umpires, solicit feedback Watch Fall or Spring games with a purpose, what is the strategy in the game from the coaches perspective Record games or obtain video to review and analyze crew management Attend Instructional Camps Self Evaluation Develop better Listening skills Join a Rules Study Group and Practice Rules Articulation

Building Your Brand Image First, let me ask you a question… Are you a consumer? What is your Brand Image? How do you improve your Image?

Building Your Brand Image Does your brand have an Image? What is the Image you would like your brand to have? How will you communicate this image to the consumer of your brand? What can I do to change my brands Image? Is the consumer buying my brand image? Does the Image I have built deliver the results I’m trying to obtain? Takes steps to reinvent your brand?

“Building your Brand”… using Art & Science? Is there Science to Rules? Know Them Know the Intent Know when to use them Is there Science to Mechanics? Be able to communicate them Is there Art to-Rules? Know what to Articulate about a rule Knowing how to Say It Is there an Art to Mechanics? Knowing when to use them Knowing where to be on How much to use Know how to anticipate the play (not the call) is a thing of beauty

Building the Plan When a Coordinator/Assignor/Supervisor say’s I’m looking for someone that has…. “IT” What do the really mean? We are looking for an official that knows when Interpose & NOT Interpose themselves into the game!!

Gain Feedback on progress Officiating Plan Elements Gain Feedback on progress Update your plan

Thank you for your time and Good Luck Building your Brand!
