How to Tie A Paragraph together! T (Topic Sentence): What your whole paragraph is about. I (Introduce Evidence): You must introduce your evidence (quote) correctly: where, when, what is going on, who is talking. E: (Evidence): = A quote from the text that helps to PROVE your main point [reminder: quotation is not just dialogue] A: (Analysis): Explain your evidence (quote)! What does it mean? What does it show? Why does it matter?

Example: What is a theme of Boy of the Painted Cave? As we read Boy of the Painted Cave for quarter 1, we discussed several things that we could learn from Tao and others in the book. What are some of these themes that we discussed?

How to Tie A Paragraph together! T (Topic Sentence: In Boy of the Painted Cave, Tao taught us that we need to be true to ourselves and never give up. I (Introduce Evidence): When Tao was tied up and the hunters were going to make him face Saxon the Sacred Bull, Kala came to cut him loose. E: (Evidence): “Tao shook his head, If I run away, then they will be sure that I have killed the Shaman.” A: (Analysis): This is evidence that Tao would rather face the danger of Saxon because he knew he was innocent. He knew that if he lived, the others would know he spoke the truth and if he did not, then it would not matter anyway.

Final paragraph In Boy of the Painted Cave, Tao taught us that we need to be true to ourselves and never give up. When Tao was tied up and the hunters were going to make him face Saxon the Sacred Bull, Kala came to cut him loose. “Tao shook his head, If I run away, then they will be sure that I have killed the Shaman.” This is evidence that Tao would rather face the danger of Saxon because he knew he was innocent. He knew that if he lived, the others would know he spoke the truth and if he did not, then it would not matter anyway.
