Warm up What are the four types of natural disasters we discussed last class? In what country are the eastern and western Ghats? What is the highest elevation in Japan? What is subsistence farming? What is commercial farming? What is high-tech industrial manufacturing? What is the difference between 4,5, &6?

Economies Economies in this region of the world are varied: Some countries get by using Subsistence farming Some countries make profits through Commercial Agriculture Other countries get rich using High tech industrial manufacturing (JAPAN)

Participation in global markets Countries from these regions buy and sell goods used all over the world.

Newly industrialized countries! Industrialized countries develop infrastructure necessary to create jobs and exports so that their country can prosper. South Korea Taiwan Singapore

Japan= Big Money!!! Japan is the economic leader of this region of the world!

China China is in transition from a centrally planned economy. Centrally Planned Economy' An economic system in which economic decisions are made by the state or government rather than by the interaction between consumers and businesses.
