Spray 7-10 day intervals for 3-4 weeks. Spray when cool, never hot. Spray option; 1-2 teaspoons soap per 1 liter of water. (Ivory, Sunlight, etc). Can wash it off later in day or when it rains late in day. Scale does not like to go high. Usually 8-10 feet.

RecommendationS Cull diseased and dying trees. Start diversifying your planting. (Include different varieties) Eliminate planting the trees in rows. Instead; plant in groups and in gullies and/or slopes. Use the mulch to cover the grouped plants. Mulch will maintain moisture and, as it rots; it feeds the plants. Rent a stump grinder to deal with the many stumps. Begin to reforest the Resort.

Progress to date Culled diseased/stressed trees. Caretaker staff cut the small diameter trees, a contractor cut the larger diameter trees. Mulching was done on site and is saved for future planting. Rented a stump remover and removed 330 stumps. This is our total lost trees over the last 20 years. 20 new trees ordered and delivered.

Diseases in residential Trees 1. Black Knot Fungus: Recognized by clumpy-looking, black masses on your branches. Prune off infected branches 2-4 inches below each “knot”. Dispose in landfill. Sanitize your tools with bleach-water solution (25% bleach, 75% water) Prune during late winter, when the fungus is dormant. Avoid pruning in spring as the spores are active.

2. Bronze Leaf Disease How to Spot: in mid-summer sections of leaves turn a bronze or brown color. Removing right away will extend the life of your tree and save others nearby. In Winter, brown leaves will cling creepily to their branch. Like Black Knot, there’s no chemical treatment for Bronze Leaf Disease. Prune 8-12 inches back from infection. Bleach your pruners.

Proper Pruning To shorten a branch or twig, cut it back to a side branch or make the cut ¼ inch above the bud. To remove large branches, cut to collar. See photo. DO NOT leave a stub!
