2016 - 2017 Graduating Class Graduates: 210 – Diverse population Ontario Scholars: 126 – 60% of the graduating class Percent of students pursuing university studies: approximately 70% Percent of students pursuing college studies: approximately 20% Work/Year off/Return to school: approximately 10%

Open Courses Appropriate for all students One set of expectations for the subject Examples: - Physical Education - Art - Music - Business - E.S.L. and Beginners French

Course Types Locally Developed For students with gaps in knowledge and skills in a specific discipline Applied Cover the core content and have an emphasis on concrete and practical learning  Academic Cover the core content and have an emphasis on theoretical and conceptual learning

How should I choose between Academic, Applied, or Locally Developed? Choose courses in which your child is most likely to achieve success based on his/her abilities, skills, and interests No pathway (university, college, apprenticeship, work) will be closed due to your child’s Grade 9 course selection. Remember: Our goal is for students to experience success in their first year of high school

Promotion Individual credits are earned subject by subject 50 percent is a passing grade Summer school - Minimum of 35 percent Maximum of 2 subjects for upgrading Core subjects only

Ontario Secondary School Diploma OSSD Requirements 30 Credits (18 Compulsory credits) Ontario Literacy Test 40 Hours of Community Service

The Grade 9 Program at Forest Hill Collegiate Compulsory Courses (6) (please note that all students must take French) Elective Courses (2) See handbook for descriptions and explanations

Special Support Programs English as a Second Language Program for ESL students 3 years or less - language assessment arranged by TDSB elementary school or West End Reception Center (Non-TDSB students) ESL students take 2 ESL classes per year ESL sections will be available in some core subjects

Special Support Programs For students who require additional academic, emotional, social, medical supports… Special Education For students with an IEP (may or may not be IPRCd) Student Success For students who require additional support and monitoring

Special Support Programs Grade 9 Learning Strategies Course GLE1O9 – for students with an IEP GLS1O1 – elective for students without an IEP Credit course Taken in one of the two semesters

Special Support Programs Students requiring accommodations from TDSB Schools Transitions and information sharing will take place between your child’s school and FHCI FHCI Special Education Department will contact parents/guardians in September

Special Support Programs Students requiring accommodations from non-TDSB Schools Indicate the level of current support on page 1 of course selection sheet Relevant documentation should be attached to the registration/course selection forms FHCI Special Education Department will contact parents/guardians in September
