What is ENF??? The mission of the Elks National Foundation is to help Elks build stronger communities. We fulfill this pledge by investing in communities where Elks live and work. We provide tomorrow’s leaders, our youth, with lifelong skills; honor the Elks’ pledge to never forget our veterans; help the state Elks associations accomplish their charitable objectives and fund projects that improve the quality of life in local Elks communities.

How the ENF Works The ENF is able to help Elks build stronger communities thanks to contributions from our generous donors. Since inception, we have received more than $243.3 million in contributions and bequests. Today we boast more than 100,000 active donors and an endowment fund valued at $606.3 million.

During the 2015-16 Lodge year, the Elks of Tennessee donated $41,584.67 to the Elks National Foundation.

Total Return on Investment That's a ratio of 3.381 for every dollar the Foundation received from Tennessee. And that doesn't even include the money Lodges in our state will get back through our Community Investments Program. For the 2015-16 fiscal year, for example, we awarded a total of $88,000.00 to 21 Tennessee Lodges.

2017 – 2018 Year At its February, 2017 meeting in Albuquerque, New Mexico, the Elks National Foundation Board of Trustees approved appropriations and distributions for the 2017 fiscal year totaling a record $29.5 million

Getting ENF Grant Money

Community Investments Program Impact Grants $2,500 to $10,000 grants. All Lodges welcome to apply. Competitive selection process. Gratitude Grants $2,000 grants. Up to $2,500 Eligibility contingent on reaching GER’s goal for per-member giving to the ENF. Will not know the GER goal until May or June. Charitable community activity. Promise Grants $2,500 grants. Available to the first 500 Lodges that pledge to host an Elks-led youth event. Beacon Grants $2,000 grants. Available to every Lodge. Must be used for an ongoing, Elks-led community project. T

FREEDOM GRANTS Great news! In 2017-18, the Elks National Veterans Service Commission will award $2,000 Freedom Grants to 200 Lodges to hold projects that serve veterans and active-duty military members Freedom Grants are competitive and will be awarded to Lodges whose projects are judged to best serve the needs of veterans and/or active-duty military members.

FREEDOM GRANT cont. 2017-18 Dates will be released in April. 2016-17 Dates: Freedom Grant applications become available online July 1, 2016, and are due July 31, 2016, at 12 p.m. (noon) Central Time. Recipients will be announced in September. Freedom Grants are available for use between September 2016, and July 31, 2017. Final Report Forms are due by August 31, 2017.

Grant Basics Basic requirements for all Community Investments Program grants: Must be charitable in nature, geared toward helping those in need. Must be used to meet a local, community need. Can’t be used for: Scholarships. Hoop Shoot contests. Youth awards nights. Poster or essay contests. Fundraisers. Appreciation dinners. .

CIP Grant Restrictions Restrictions: CIP Grant guidelines state that Lodges may not use grants to support State Major Projects, national Elks programs, fund scholarships, Hoop Shoot/Soccer Shoot events, youth awards nights, poster and/or essay contests, appreciations dinners, fundraisers or general community events. Grants may not be used for Lodge maintenance and/or repairs, or to only benefit Lodge members and their families. Grant funds must serve a population in need, and cannot be donations of funds or supplies to individuals.

ENF Grant Coordinators Lodge Secretary has ability to appoint anyone from the Lodge as a Grant Coordinator. Grant Coordinator can access online grant applications through the ENF website (not CLMS). Coordinator should be computer savvy. Lodges can have more than one. Coordinator should ideally be involved with the grant. More information on http://www.elks.org/enf/community/WhatsNew.cfm

2017-18 Gratitude Grants: The Basics $2,000 grants available to all Lodges that reach the GER’s member goal for giving to the ENF. Application becomes available to your Lodge when it reaches the goal, starting July 1, 2017. Can be used for straight donations, but…

Gratitude Grants—Consider This ….Gratitude Grant projects with Elks involvement are so much better! Good for Them Better for You Donate to Food Bank. Have a food drive, serve a meal to families in need. Donate to six youth groups. Hold monthly drug-free youth activities. Donate to restore city building. Partner with students to hold a community clean-up day. Donate to veterans group. Volunteer at a Stand Down, or reach out to veterans in need. Give supplies to Fire Dept. or Police Dept. Partner with both groups on a Community Safety Day.

2017-18 Beacon Grants: The Basics $2,000 grants available to every Lodge, regardless of ENF giving. Application available July 1, 2017. Must apply by March 31, 2018. Must be used by July 31, 2018.

Beacon Grants—The Requirements Must be a new project for the Lodge, meaning something the Lodge wasn’t already doing without our grants.* Must be ongoing, not a one-time event. Must be Elks-led, with much Elks involvement. Must be an activity, meaning that it requires Elks involvement. *The project must be new the first time the Lodge applies for the Beacon Grant. Ideally, Lodges will use their Beacon Grant for the same successful, ongoing project each year after that.

Beacon Grants—Consider This Doesn’t Qualify Qualifies Dictionary Project. Youth and Elks Reading Fair. Donation to Wounded Warriors. Biannual Wounded Warrior outings. Little League sponsorship. Baseball clinic for at-risk youth. Purchase equipment for scouts. Partner with scouts on quarterly service projects. Donation to DARE. Monthly drug-free events for teens. Flag Day dinner for Elks who are veterans. Holiday activities for VA hospital residents.

2017-18 Promise Grants: The Basics $2,500 grants available to the first 500 Lodges that pledge to hold an eligible event that builds the character and competence of local youth, regardless of ENF giving. Application available July 1, 2017. Must apply by March 31, 2018. (However, all 500 Promise Grants are usually gone by October, so apply early!) Must be used by July 31, 2018.

Promise Grants—The Requirements Must be used for an Elks-led youth event that meets one or more of these needs: Provides youth with safe places. Promotes healthy living. Offers support from caring adults. Emphasizes the importance of education. Encourages community service. Must be an activity, meaning that it requires Elks involvement.

Promise Grants—Consider This Doesn’t Qualify Qualifies Scholarship presentation night. Partner with youth to organize a service project. Distribute drug awareness supplies. Hold an after-prom party at the Lodge. Sports team sponsorship. Start an intramural sports league for teens. Holiday party for children and grandchildren of Elks. Throw a holiday party for foster children or youth in need. Dictionary Project. Hold a reading fair or youth book club. Donation to Boys & Girls Club. Organize a field trip for Boys & Girls Club youth. Poster/Essay contest. Partner with students to hold quarterly art fairs.

Lodge Assistance Grants Lodge Assistance Grants allow Lodges to secure donations from businesses or corporations for specific Lodge charitable projects through restricted monetary donations to the ENF. With this opportunity, the Foundation extends the benefits of our charitable status to both the business or corporation and the Lodge ENF IS A 501(c)(3). Our Lodges are NOT!!!!!

Lodge Assistance Grants Must be a monetary donation of at least $500 from foundations or corporations that haven written policies restricting donations to only 501(c)(3) organizations. Donations from individuals or businesses that are not corporations do not qualify. Donations received through the Lodge Assistance Grant program do not count toward recognition levels or for determining per capita.

Applying for Lodge Assistance Grants Funds may not be used to donate to other organizations, to repair, build or renovate Lodge buildings or to benefit only Elks and their families. Contact the ENF Programs Department for guidelines and to receive the LAG application. To ensure compliance, discuss the application with the ENF before applying!
