Why Wales? Innovative and collaborative approaches for a vibrant life sciences eco-system PP-GIP-GBR-3622 June 2018

A challenging environment which demands innovative and collaborative solutions between a variety of partners Challenging Environment Evolution of Delivery Achieved by Collaboration Long Term Conditions Different Partners Increasing Costs Outcomes Different capabilities Future Cuts New Technology Presenter 2018-06-25 16:23:56 -------------------------------------------- Setting the scene – why partnerships and collaborations are so important for a thriving UK life sciences industry Financial austerity combined with agrowing and ageing population and the cost of innovation means the NHS is under increasing pressure A successful future for the UK Life Sciences Industry must be built on a successful NHS. Demands from an ageing population and continued medical advances require not only continued investment and efficiency, but a fundamental shift towards greater partnership between the health service and its stakeholders, including industry We recognise the challenges facing the healthcare system and stand ready to work with UK Government to ensure improved patient outcomes and long-term sustainability of the NHS … As an industry leader, at Pfizer we recognise our role in being part of the solution To co-create solutions in collaboration with both traditional and non-traditional stakeholders across the healthcare ecosystem to drive change in the interest of the patient To evolve from transactional relationships, to strategic partnerships, focusing on improving health and wellbeing To use the skills, capabilities and toolsavailable to collaborate with healthcare stakeholders to create a smarter, more efficient healthcare system: Real world data and analytics help evaluate patient outcomes in routine clinical settings enable more informed decision-making by healthcare stakeholders who are focused on delivering high-value, quality care. Digital technology provides greater accessibility to healthcare and understanding of health status and more efficient care delivery. Emerging technologies such as sensors enable collection of continuous, real time health status information, which can facilitate diagnosis, treatment, and outcome measurement Leading to an evolution of healthcare delivery towards value-based care, focused on health outcomes and quality of care delivered. Quality Efficiency Professional Shortage Real World Data Aging Population Smart Efficient System As one of a number of Industry Leaders, it’s Pfizer responsibility to be part of the solution PP-GIP-GBR-3622 June 2018

Through our Joint Working projects, Pfizer aims to work in partnership with a wide range of healthcare organisations to develop solutions that improve patient care and add value to the work of the NHS. Joint Working is defined as situations where the NHS and pharmaceutical companies work together for the benefit of patients with a shared commitment to successful delivery. The joint working between Swansea University and Pfizer Ltd is to focus on supporting the development of a system that better aligns industry, the NHS, and academia to innovating in the pursuit of improved patient and public outcomes. This first project within this collaboration will be the creation of a 3 year Clinical Digital Consultant (a Professor of Enhanced Health Innovation, Engagement and Outcomes) post to coordinate and lead projects. Benefits to patients include: improved early stage education and risk awareness of disease, improved activation, screening and detection of underlying conditions, & continual adaptation of pathways and patient interventions to balance outcome improvement with patient control over living a full and positive life with their condition. Benefits to Swansea include: creation of a concentrated network of clinicians, healthcare professionals, academics and local authorities, presenting opportunity to: • • – Ensure a core digital infrastructure in which every interaction is captured, collected and utilized to drive continuous improvement in as near real-time a manner as possible Develop global leadership in value-based healthcare models, scalable to other systems in Wales, the UK and worldwide. – • Benefits to Pfizer include: demonstrate that by working with novel partners to convey health information to hard to reach or high risk population groups we can activate a broader, earlier and more effective patient response, prove that Pfizer can partner with the healthcare system in the Swansea Bay City Region and employ novel technologies to help patients achieve real world outcomes from their medication equal to those achieved in a clinical trial setting, and enhance Pfizer’s reputation as a partner for healthcare innovation PP-GIP-GBR-3622 June 2018

Bringing to life our shared ambitions Aligned with the Wales Government National Strategy, Pfizer and Swansea University are working in partnership to drive forward ambitious local health, wealth and wellbeing agendas. An optimal environment for life sciences research and development, the South West Wales region has the potential to be at the forefront of excellence in healthcare service delivery, research, education and innovation. Backing innovation and working together is essential to achieving the Government’s ambition for UK health and life sciences.   Swansea Bay City Deal partners have a strategic focus on health and wellbeing and a vision to transform the NHS in South West Wales. Through sharing the knowledge and expertise of industry, academia, the NHS and government we are seeking to accelerate and facilitate new innovative initiatives, and explore a range of therapeutic and technology-based interventions, studied through the collection of real-world data, with the aim of anticipating the future state of healthcare. We’ll be working with partners across the ecosystem to access healthcare interventions, inform prevention approaches and maximise optimal health management.
