Rising 9th grade parent night MS. Scarpelli & Ms. abelson
Acc. Algebra 1/Geometry A Accelerated moves at a faster pace – level of rigor is much higher Covers 9 units instead of 6 - (covers 3 units of geometry) Students should be very self motivated, organized, excel at time management, should not be afraid to ask for help, and advocate for themselves. 7 points added onto overall average if student passes for semester. Student should be coming from TAG 8th grade math or advanced 8th math and have an overall average of 90% or above
High school pathway (accelerated) 9th grade 10th grade 11th grade 12th grade Accelerated Track Accelerated Algebra / Geometry A Honors (covers the full year of on-level Algebra 1 plus 1st semester of on-level Geometry) Accelerated Geometry B/ Algebra 2 Honors (covers 2nd semester of on-level Geometry and the full year of Algebra 2) Accelerated Pre –Calculus Honors AP Statistics, AP Calculus AB OR BC, or apply for a college level math (all depends on performance in 11th grade)
High school pathway (on level) 9th grade 10th grade 11th grade 12th grade On-level Track Algebra 1 Geometry Algebra 2 Precalculus, AMDM, AP Stat, or apply for a college level math through Move On When Ready (all depends on performance in 11th grade)
If student gets off of acc. track Even though accelerated algebra 1 and on level algebra 1 take the same end of course test, if the student drops accelerated algebra 1, the Student must take a bridge course in the summer to get back on accelerated Track for following year. For example, If student drops from accelerated algebra 1 to on – level algebra 1 in 9th grade, the only way to be placed in accelerated geometry for 10th grade would be to take a bridge course in the summer to make up for the units they missed during the 9th grade year.
Algebra 1 support Elective course- serves as an extra help class to better succeed in algebra 1 Students will have a separate final exam Grades are based mostly on classwork completion/participation – no homework Open notebook tests and quizzes, 2 days before on level algebra to prepare students with what to expect on their assessment in on level algebra 1 Lots of partner/group work Students must be prepared to participate, ask questions, and use this time as a resource to help them be successful in algebra 1
