Survival Knots

Survival Knots Survival Knots are useful for search and rescue, outdoor enthusiasts, campers, hikers, climbers and fisherman. There are hundreds of different types of knots used for many purposes. Specifically, knots may be used for: Joining two ropes together Making knots in the center of a rope Making knots at the end of a rope

Overhand Knot

A Bight of Rope

Slip Knot- Form a loop in the end of the rope Slip Knot- Form a loop in the end of the rope. Prepare a bight in the short end. Tuck the bight through the loop and tighten. The knot can be used as temporary stopper knot. Theoretically, the knot can then be quickly untied by pulling on the free end to release the bight. Noose Knot- Form a loop in the end of the rope Noose Knot- Form a loop in the end of the rope. Tuck a bight of the standing end through the loop. Make the bight larger and pass it around the object. Pull on the standing end to tighten the noose. It is been used as a snare to catch small animals in survival situations. It should never be tight round someone's neck. The knot can bind and critically restrict blood flow. http://www.animatedknots.com/noose/index.php?Categ=basics&LogoImage=LogoGrog.jpg&Website=www.animatedknots.com

Daisy Chain- used to coil your rope to shorten it and prevent it from getting tangled Structure: Tie a Slip Knot in the rope; tuck a bight into the loop; and repeat. Complete the chain by feeding the end through the final bight. The chain is released by withdrawing the end. Make another loop and tuck it into the previous loop. Keep repeating. When the chain is long enough, lock it by passing the end through the final loop. The Daisy Chain http://www.animatedknots.com/chainsinnet/index.php
