Why do we do Module Allocations? To allow student choice. To ensure a fair allocations process. For small group teaching – seminar groups of 15. Last year every student was allocated to at least two of their first preferences. There will be over 20 modules to choose from; you pick your first and second preferences. We will allocate you to a combination of these. The module list will be different to the 2017-18 list. 12/11/2018 © The University of Sheffield
Module Allocations: the process Wed 21st March Attend the History Module Allocations Meeting. Wed 21st March (after meeting) Module allocation instructions sent out by department. By 5pm on Fri 23rd March List of the History modules running in 2018-19 including the DRAFT timetable will be available. Mon 9th – 19th April Departmental module preference forms open at 10am Monday and preferences must be submitted 12 noon on Thursday 19th April. Fri 20th – Wed 25th April Department allocates students to modules. Thurs 26th April History Module Allocations published on History Online (MOLE). Mon 30th April – Fri 18th May University Online Module Choice system opens. SINGLE HISTORY – You will not need to complete the University Online Module Choice process, unless you are requesting an unrestricted module. DUALISTS – You will need to complete the University Online Module Choice process; unless your dual department inform you otherwise. Fri 6th July Exam results released. Level 2 Modules Core modules – HST202: Historians and History (all students), available in first semester only. Taught through lectures / seminars / office hours Document options – available in first semester only; detailed studies of a historical theme or event with particular focus on source analysis. Lectures / seminars / office hours Examples: Aztecs – Myth of Venice – Ten Commandments Option modules – first and second semester. Detailed studies of periods / themes. Lectures / seminars / office hours Examples: The Rise of Rome – The Making of Modern India – Gender, Culture & Society HST209 – taught in second semester only. 5,000 word essay tied to either a document option or option module. Workshops and individual supervisions.

HST209 How? What? When? Teaching? Restrictions Preferences? Attached to your Document Option or one of your Option modules. Provided the member of staff teaching is available in sem 2. What? 5,000 word extended essay. When? Runs in semester 2 only. HST209 Teaching? Supervisor, seminars & workshops. Restrictions Can only be taken with HST modules, not AAP. Preferences?
