Data Quality Overview Rita

What is the concern? Who does it impact? Where do we start? Good quality data and consistent data within criminal justice records management systems Who does it impact? All users of criminal justice information Where do we start? County District Attorney, Adult Probation, and Jails Rita

Data Entry Standard The National Information Exchange Model (NIEM) has been the standard provided for entering data. This model has been adopted by the national government, PA state agencies and local agencies. Rita

What is NIEM? A national initiative supported by the Federal government (DOH, BJA, IJS), NIEM is a means of connecting communities of people who share a common need to exchange information in order to advance their missions The fundamental building block of NIEM is a data component. Data components are the basic business data items that describe common concepts used in general business activities Rita

DQ Toolkit NIEM concepts customized for PA CJ users Targets nontechnical users http://dq.pacounties.org

Benefits to Participation NIEM compliance = data standardization for participating PA counties NIEM is common ‘language’ for all counties and all PA CJ Data Project provides technical resources to assist with historical record clean-up Improvement in PA State Police (PSP) and Justice Network (JNET) data submission and acceptance Platform and vendor independent
