Structure of the BIS Program The BIntSt program consists of 48 units in total Part A Core courses = 16 units (Including compulsory courses: 1st year: Crossing Bridges; 2nd year: Culture & World Politics; 3rd year: Reflective Writing) Part B Language Major = 16 units Part C International Studies Major = 16 units Total = 48 units Note: At least 6 of the 48 units must be undertaken on overseas exchange. PARTS B & C: MAJORS What is in a Major? Introductory courses: Level 1 courses that form the first part of the major Advanced courses: Level 2 and Level 3 courses that form the middle and last part of the major Gateway course: A compulsory Level 1 course that brings together all students in the major and provides a common foundation Cornerstone: A compulsory Level 2 course that brings together all students in the major to provide consolidation and extension of previous work in preparation for Level 3 courses Capstone course: A compulsory Level 3 course that brings together all students in the major to review what has been taught and provide a shared conclusion

EXCHANGE Exchange is usually in Sem 1 of 3rd year, can be Sem 2 of 2nd year Current BIS students are on exchange in France, Spain, Italy, Russia, Japan, South Korea, China, Indonesia, Columbia, Mexico and USA, among others Please complete your 6 unit elective component on exchange, in addition to any other courses within your majors or Part A which offer flexibility COMU3060/3065 is a year long course- take Part A on exchange semester and Part B the semester following You must meet the UQ Abroad exchange requirements i.e. get a GPA of 4.5 or more UQ Abroad will assist you in organising your compulsory exchange semester: uq.edu.au/uqabroad/ A useful website to assist you in preparing for exchange: https://hass.uq.edu.au/student-support/studying-overseas
