Motion Tweening Motion tween is nothing but tweening (originally inbetweening) a shape’s movement from one position to another. Basically, a Symbol is sketched in one position, a path is sketched and the computer program calculates the motion inbetween. Motion tweening is also term used in Macromedia Flash to refer to the transition from one position or location to another. YouTube - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fk4xt190SNM

TOOL PATH GENERATION Tool Path Generation software is used to create files which can control CNC/CAM machinery, eg. Milling Machines, Lathes, Routers, etc. Inventor files can be exported into a suitable format which the TPG software can use to create a programme which will control a machine’s cutting tools to manufacture the object. YouTube video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YRNB98XFzTA

STOP FRAME Animation A method of creating what appears to be a ‘moving’ image by saving lots of images which have a small amount of movement on each. Stop Frame films usually require 25 frames per second to produce a ‘smooth’ transition appearance. YouTube video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PHTQr0kfA98

MOTION CAPTURE A method of capturing the movement of a physical object, eg human, vehicle, animal, etc by recording movement into data on a computer. This can then be transferred to a software programme which simulates the movement by a 3D model. YouTube video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZnrKKjaVxCA

3D Printing A 3D drawing (eg Inventor) can be exported to a 3D printing machine which will ‘print’ or make the object by building up thin layers of plastic. The file type used is STL (Standard Tessellation Language) or AMF (Additive Manufacture File). This process is carried out by Adding material, whereas most CNC processes cut or subtract material. YouTube video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vx0Z6LplaMU

OTHER FILETYPE INFORMATION CAM – Computer Aided Manufacture. Computer programmes are used to create data which can control the operation of a machine, tool path, speed, etc. Used in CNC Lathes, Milling Machines, Routers, etc. Depending on machine, the CNC programme may work on an XY-axis, or and XYZ-axis. FILM FILES – Films and animations are saved in a variety of file types. These include: WMV – Windows Media Video AVI – Audio Video Interleave Quicktime – Mainly for Apple format machinery MPG – MPEG Video file, etc.
