The Power of Recognition and Rewards in Talent Development LADDER Program (Learning and Development Driven Employee Recognition) Megan Bertucci Rodney Whittle Joe Krock

The Problem Talent Retention Modern organizations face many problems such as attrition, confidentiality and loyalty in their workforce. Also talented professionals have high demand and bargaining power due to their knowledge and skills.

The Solution Talent Management People are now seen as the primary source of a company’s competitive advantage. Employee recognition programs enhance employee satisfaction, productivity and organizational performance.

Understanding What Motivates Employees Academic Research The Impact Of Reward and Recognition Programs On Employee’s Motivation and Satisfaction: An Empirical Study (Ali &Ahmed, 2009) Understanding what motivates employees is one of the key challenges for managers. Statistically significant, direct and positive relationship between rewards (.86) and recognition (.92) and employee satisfaction and motivation are well documented. recognition promotion benefits Employee satisfaction motivation Payment

Best Practices Make Recognition Frequent Make Recognition specific Intentional Recognition Your Employees Will Respond To Make Recognition Frequent Make Recognition specific Make Recognition personal Make Recognition Fun Employees do great work throughout the year. So why recognize that work only once a year? By providing consistent praise and positive feedback, you can create a culture of praise. Peers are the top driver of satisfaction in the workplace, so employees hearing praise from their colleagues has clear value. Lead by example ― don’t be afraid to tell an employee they’ve done a good job. If your approach to recognition is one size fits all, then you’re not demonstrating to employees that they’re valued Make an announcement at a company meeting about a team that’s been putting in extra effort. By providing positive recognition, you reinforce behaviors associated with a positive workplace If you have an introverted employee, maybe that all-company announcement or email isn’t the best way. Showing that you took time out of your busy day to recognize their good work is something your employees will appreciate. Sometimes it may even just be best for employees to pick their own way to celebrate their hard work. Remembering an employee’s birthday and giving them a card signed by everyone in the office will make a real difference Let’s face it: few people get a thrill from being employee of the month. Employees will find it more fun if you gamify recognition, making it into a contest. Offering a happy hour beer to employees is another way to keep it fun. Keep the competition friendly and the rewards small. ACTIVITIES
