ThE Four Tissue Types

Epithelial tissue Forms many coverings & linings of body parts Functions: Protection Secretion Absorption Filtration Cells are tightly packed with no blood vessels Can regenerate

Epithelial Tissue - Classification By layers: Simple – one layer Stratified – multiple layers By shape: Squamous – flat & square Cuboidal – cube-like Columnar – column-like

What kind is this?

Connective Tissue Most abundant & variable of all tissue types Functions: Binding Support Protection Storage Transport

Connective Tissue - Types Loose connective tissue Lots of cells & empty space Few fibers Dense connective tissue Few cells, lots of fibers Cartilage Few blood vessels Bone Blood

Muscle Tissue – Three Types Smooth Muscle – helps move things through body tubes like intestines, blood vessels, etc. Skeletal Muscle – moves bones Cardiac Muscle – the heart

Nervous Tissue – Two Types Nerve cells – transmit messages Neuroglia – provide support to neurons

What types of tissue are these?
