John Wycliffe

Brief Introduction Born in about 1320 Died in 1384 Worked for the king of the Great Britain in politics. A steadfast reformer in religion.

Learning Experience in Oxford Bachelor:math and natural science , got the bachelor’s degree in 1369 Master: philosophy and theology Doctor: got doctorate of theology in 1372 He mainly researched theology, ecclesiastical law, history of England and scholasticism, and he worked as a theological professor in Oxford for several years.

Knew about the inside stories of the church Worked for the King 1375, the armistice negotiation between Britain and France 1375, the negotiation with the representatives of the Pope in Bruges … A series of events Knew about the inside stories of the church

In a word, the church had hindered the development of the society. So what resulted in the form of Wycliffe’s thought of the Reformation ? The declination of feudal serfdom. The development of productivity. The problems of church. In a word, the church had hindered the development of the society.

Wycliffe’s Thought of the Reformation Firstly, “Dominion By Grace”, opposed the rule of church, and emphasized the authority of God Secondly, the property of church should be confiscated and returned to the country Thirdly, abolish church’s complex rites and found the national and clean-fingered church …

Wycliffe’s Contribution Struck the rule of Roman Catholic Released people’s minds and encouraged people to fight against feudalism Influenced other reformer like Czech reformer John Huss in 15th century
