Comparatives Continued… English Grammar Connection: Comparatives are expressions used to compare two people or things. Rodrigo is taller than his sister. Rodrigo es más alto que su hermana.

Tus hermanas son tan serias como la maestra. Use the following phrases with an adjective to compare two things. The adjectives agree with the first noun. tan... Como= as . . . as Tus hermanas son tan serias como la maestra. Your sisters are as serious as the teacher. Adjective That matches the noun

Use tan … como for “as … as” when the characteristic in common is an adjective or adverb. Carlos es tan guapo como su hermano Carlos is as good looking as his brother

When a comparison involves a verb, use this tanto como...=as much as . . . ¿Te gusta hablar tanto como escuchar? Do you like to talk as much as listen?
