PURPOSE AND USE OF A REGIONAL PEST LIST IN THE COSAVE AREA Argentina Brasil Chile Paraguay Uruguay COMITE DE SANIDAD VEGETAL DEL CONO SUR Bolivia PURPOSE AND USE OF A REGIONAL PEST LIST IN THE COSAVE AREA 21th TC, Entebbe, Uganda. 2009 Ing . Agr. Soledad Castro Dorochessi

Regional Standard of Phytosanitary Measures 3.16, v1.1.1, July 2006 Guidelines To Establish The List Of Main Regulated Pests For The COSAVE Region. Approved on July 2006 by COSAVE´s Directive Committee. Ratified on July 2006 by COSAVE´s Council of Ministers.

SCOPE The standard describes the process to prepare, approve and update the list of main regulated pests in COSAVE´s region. .

OBJECTIVE The list an element to facilitate trade between countries of the Region. a tool to improve transparency and a way to help to prevent the introduction and spread of pests in the Region, allowing to identify priorities for regional actions.

CRITERIA FOR INCLUSION INTO THE LIST The pest has to be regulated in COSAVE member countries. Pests can be included in the list as an entire genera, when it is regulated as absent of the Region.

PROCEDURE The list of main regulated pests is established on the basis of the national pest lists of COSAVE member countries (inclusion in national lists is based on ISPM´s 11 and 19) The consolidation process of national lists is undertaken by COSAVE´s Ad Hoc Working Group on Quarantine Issues. COSAVE´s Directive Committee considers approval of the regional list.

PROCEDURE The list includes scientific names and status for the region for each pest. The list is published openly in COSAVE´s Web Site. The list is reviewed each two years or exceptionally, before that timeframe.
