You have an website? We wanna evaluate it! Evaluation/Review You have an website? We wanna evaluate it!

What is a review? Follow the link to watch a clip of this excellent gentleman review the 2015 Grammy awards on Saturday Night Live. So what are good criteria? “good” criteria allows the viewer of a text (in your case, a website) to look at it critically and decide whether it does a good job relating information about ADHD/ADD. There are some crazy websites out there…if you don’t believe me, google “woman gives birth to a frog-headed baby”. We are talkin’ some crazy stuff here, folks! (P.S. don’t, I repeat, don’t watch the videos unless you want nightmares). #SuperGross We want to make sure we understand what a “good” website is (academically speaking), and in order to do that, we need to be able to evaluate/review texts. p.p.s.---I know some of you watched the frog-headed baby video

Accuracy Accuracy means that the information presented is truthful and can be verified. Information to look for to determine accuracy: Who wrote the page and can you contact him/her? What is the purpose of the document/website and why was it produced? Is the person who created the document qualified to do so? Know the distinction between an author and a webmaster/website administrator.

Authority Authority means that the website/author is an expert on the topic of ADHD/ADD. They have authority to back up what they are saying. To find authority, check: Who published the document Is the author’s credentials listed (i.e. Dr., professor, scientist at some great lab, etc) Is the information presented in the document cited properly? Is there a references page or a bibliography? Is the domain an academic one? (i.e. .edu, .gov, .org, or .net)?

Objectivity Objectivity means that the people who are writing the information are not just writing a personal opinion. They look at the facts and research in order to inform the material they post on the website. When reviewing objectivity, look for: What goals/objectives does the page have/meet? How detailed is the information? What (if any) opinions are expressed by the author? Do these opinions make you question the validity of the information? Determine if the website is a mask for advertising (if so the information might be biased) View every website as you would a commercial on tv. Ask yourself: why was this written and who was it written for?

Currency Currency means that information posted on the website is up to date and reflects the latest data available. When reviewing currency, look for: When was it produced? When was it last updated? How up-to-date are the links? Are there any “dead” links? Is the page content or visuals outdated? Is the information presented relevant today?
