Uncommon becoming common…. Case series of fallopian cancers Uncommon becoming common…. Case series of fallopian cancers *Ragupathy K, Mann J, Dugar N, Iqbal P, Alloub M Doncaster Royal Infirmary Conclusions Background Primary Fallopian tube cancer is very rare with an incidence of only 1 to 2 percent of the gynaecology cancers (1). However, reports are emerging that it might be more common than the historical figure (2). Method Data collected between November 2010 and October 2011 Retrospective evaluation of women diagnosed with fallopian cancers, looking at presentation, clinical findings, investigations and the final histology. Our case series Literature data 3.6% of all female genital cancers were PFTC 1% Age range 35 to 78 Median age 55 50% presented with classical signs of adnexal pain and discharge <15% 50% women were diagnosed as fallopian cancer preoperatively through USS and MRI 0-10% preoperative diagnosis rate because of proximity of tube to ovary and latter being more common 33% had raised CA125 levels >80% 33% had metastasis to Para aortic lymph nodes 30% 40% were diagnosed with early stage cancer and 60% in advanced stage 45% are in stage I/II and 55% in stage III/IV PFTC poses a challenge and this case review shows the difficulty in correlating clinic-radiological findings, misleading CA125 levels A multi-disciplinary approach is advised with low index of suspicion in a postmenopausal woman with adnexal pain and being aware that PFTC is becoming more common than estimated Returns 1457 Abstracts selected 330 Papers selected 46 Our case series – highest number reported from a single unit in one year High preoperative radiological diagnosis Our case series identified PFTC preoperatively in 50% women and we believe MRI done by radiologists with expertise in gynaecology aided by MDT discussion made the difference REFERENCES Pectasides D et al, The Oncologist 2006:11:902-912   Riska A et al, Int J Cancer 2003;104:643–645.
