Recap:

The Modern Teleological Argument Modern science causes a problem for the classical teleological argument but modern philosophers still feel it may prove God’s existence.

Modern Design Argument:

Read the Modern Scientific View of the Universe Make a list using the information to help you understanding why modern science causes problems for the teleological view.

Read the Modern Scientific View of the Universe Tennant, in his book; ‘Philosophical Theology’ said that there must be a designer because; The universe perfectly fits the development of life. The universe is designed in a way that allows life to grow and develop. Most importantly, it is designed to develop intelligent human life. This is the ‘Anthropic Principle’. Tennant also spoke of the ‘Aesthetic Argument’ – that human beings can appreciate and enjoy beauty, music, art, literature – none of which is vital to survival, but is there to develop qualities of beauty and love.

Read the Modern Scientific View of the Universe

Read the Modern Design Argument What is spatial order and temporal order? What is the purpose of Swinburne's card-shuffling analogy? How does Swinburne use temporal order to prove God’s existence? Explain the Anthropic argument in two sentences. How does F R Tennant use “beauty” to prove God’s existence? How do modern design arguments overcome the problems of modern science?
