Easter Around the World

Japan. Japan is easily getting interested by foreign holidays. There are over half-million catholic Christians residing in Japan, they aren’t “gaijin”, they are Japanese. The Japanese know many western traditions such as Christhmas, Valentine’s Day and Halloween. In Japan there is a kanji conglomeration called fukkatsusai. Fukkatsu means revival, and , in this case, means festival.

Italy. Easter is a very important holiday. In Italy people, during this festivity, close the public offices, but the transport options are available. During this day parents and friends exchange chocolate eggs and wishes. In this day, people go to church to bless bread, hard-boiled eggs, braids and olive branch.

England Easter in England is a festive occasion with an emphasis on the dawn of a new life. Easter is an important time for the confectionery industry. In the United Kingdom, Easter eggs are often large hollow chocolate eggs filled with bonbons or other candy. The eggs are covered in decorative foil and packaged in elaborate boxes. Many people celebrate Easter Sunday by decorating, exchanging or searching eggs.

China. In China, Easter is only a special holiday for chatholics, Orthodox and established Christian churches. Millions of Christians celebrate Easter. But most people don’t observe it or believe in the resurrection at all, and others millions of Chinese have taken up Western children customs such as Easter eggs hunts just for fun . Smaller home groups might celebrate whit family or friends or even secretly saying simple prayers and talking about the resurrection of Jesus.

Bulgaria. In Bulgaria, on the day before Easter, people make great home-cleaning and they cook the ‘kozunakas’. They colour eggs, and then give them as a present on Easter Sunday along with wishes. The most important colour for the Bulgarians is red, because it simbolizes health.
