An Old Testament Comparison

Revelation 10 & Ezekiel 2:8-3:4 8 But you, son of man, hear what I say to you. New Testament Prophecy

The Angel & the Book I saw still another mighty angel coming down from heaven, clothed with a cloud. And a rainbow was on his head, his face was like the sun, and his feet like pillars of fire. Revelation 10:1

The Bittersweet Book So I went to the angel and said to him, “Give me the little book.”And he said to me, “Take and eat it; and it will make your stomach bitter, but it will be as sweet as honey in your mouth.”Then I took the little book out of the angel's hand and ate it, and it was as sweet as honey in my mouth. But when I had eaten it, my stomach became bitter. Revelation 10:9-10

The Bittersweet Book The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul;The testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple;The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart;The commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes;The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever;The judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether.More to be desired are they than gold,Yea, than much fine gold;Sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.Moreover by them Your servant is warned,And in keeping them there is great reward. Psalm 19:7-11

Lessons for us Today

The Source of the Word Should cause man to… Obey God’s Word Since you have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit in sincere love of the brethren, love one another fervently with a pure heart, having been born again, not of corruptible seed but incorruptible, through the word of God which lives and abides forever, because“All flesh is as grass,And all the glory of man as the flower of the grass.The grass withers,And its flower falls away,But the word of the Lord endures forever.” Now this is the word which by the gospel was preached to you. 1 Peter 1:22-25

The Source of the Word Should cause man to… Desire the Word so one can grow Therefore, laying aside all malice, all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and all evil speaking, as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby, if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is gracious. 1 Peter 2:1-3

Conclusion 1. The Word of God may be bittersweet however it still must be respected & obeyed. For this reason we also thank God without ceasing, because when you received the word of God which you heard from us, you welcomed it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which also effectively works in you who believe. 1 Thessalonians 2:13

Conclusion 2. God’s Word has sweet promises for those who receive it. …and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls. James 1:21b

Conclusion 3. We must also never forget the bitter, the destruction that awaits those who do not obey Him. and to give you who are troubled rest with us when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with His mighty angels, in flaming fire taking vengeance on those who do not know God, and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. These shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power, 2 Thessalonians 1:7-9
