JOURNEY’S READING PROGRAM Textbook stays in school, workbook Homework for Journeys will be in the workbook or in homework notebook Each story in the textbook will be done in a cycle of approximately 8 days Reading skill will be introduced with each story. Each story contains vocabulary which will be glued in the yellow notebook and will need to studied. Lesson from the textbook are not in sequential order to help connect to writing. There will be an assessment at the end of each story.

Math In Focus Textbook (which stays in school) and workbook. Homework will be done in workbook and notebook (orange). Each chapter begins with a prior knowledge lesson and a pre-test. (No homework during the pre-assessment). Review will be sent home prior to test at the end of the chapter. Assessment at the end of each chapter.

Writing Following the Teachers’ College Program. Students will be writing across 4 genres (Narrative, Opinion, Poetry and Non-Fiction). Writing is done within the school day. Journal entries are done at home. They are to help with the writing process, but are not related to the students published pieces.

Science Will be taught in the classroom. After every unit, a review sheet will be sent home. Every unit will end with an assessment.

Social Studies The Students will be studying New York City and communities around New York. Interactive summary sheet will be glued into the pink notebook; vocabulary is included on this sheet. The students will be responsible to know the meaning of these words. Homework will also be in the pink notebook. Review will be done prior to each assessment. Each chapter will end in an assessment.

Homework Reading for 20 minutes per night is required. A monthly reading log must be completed. Work on log entries through out the month. The log will be collected at the end of the month and graded according to the rubric on the log sheet. A writing journal entry is required each night. Math is usually in the workbook. Reading is usually in the workbook. Please check the agenda and the folder each night for important information. Book baggies will be sent home for homework. Please be sure to return to school each day.

Classroom Routines Teachers will only release students to those people listed on the Office Blue Card. Please update any important changes to the information on the Office Blue Cards. Any changes to dismissal must be sent to school on a dated and signed note. Wear sneakers for physical education. 2-212 will have PE on Thursday’s.
