Multiple global commitments PARIS AGREEMENT 88% of INDCs identifying specific transport modes Lima to Paris Action Agenda LPAA: 10 initiatives in transport Paris Process on Mobility and Climate PPMC: 15 initiatives TARGET SDG 9.1 Develop quality, reliable, sustainable and resilient infrastructure, including regional and transborder infrastructure, to support economic development and human well-being, with a focus on affordable and equitable access for all TARGET SDG 11.2 Provide access to safe, affordable, accessible and sustainable transport systems for all, improving road safety, notably by expanding public transport, with special attention to the needs of those in vulnerable situations, women, children, persons with disabilities and older persons BRASILIA DECLARATION ON ROAD SAFETY Halve road traffic deaths by 2020 –SDG Target 3.6 FFD Special challenges and needs of landlocked developing countries, harnessing benefits from international trade, and developing efficient transport and transit systems HABITAT III New Urban Agenda

mobility options on the rise, but transport still on an unsustainable path 200+ cities have enacted Low Emission Zones since 2003, becoming part of the mainstream in Europe 188 cities with metro systems since the first in 1863 in London, Great Britain 1000+ cities with carsharing programs since the first in Lucerne & Zurich, Switzerland in 1987, have become mainstream in the EU and North America Nearly 500 cities with bikesharing programs since the first in Rennes, France in 1998; beginning to mainstream in Europe 213 carfree zones in Europe since the first in Rotterdam, Netherlands in 1953 250+ cities with integrated fare systems since the first in Zurich, Switzerland in 1989 Source: EMBARQ; http://thecityfix.com/blog/on-the-move-advancing-sustainable-transport-getting-from-here-to-there-holger-dalkmann/

Solutions known, but integration, implementation and finance are limited

Insufficient recognition of needs and enabling environment, including finance

Need to integrate the processes into a single visión From needs to enabling environment

For example: using the coallition of Mobilise your City (promoted by CODATU) to inform the Habitat III declaration, which in turn influences national policies to support sustainable mobility and compact urban development with finance and capacity builiding, and then local implementation by cities. There is support from Development Instittuions and NGOs in capacity building and finance, in each of the stages.

The Way forward
