Y9 – Speaking and Listening Homework Term 6

Week One In preparation for next lesson, you will need to research animal testing. Find at least 10 facts about animal testing. Challenge Task: Make a list of the pros and cons of animal testing.

Week Two Challenge Task: Define the term idiolect and sociolect. Make a list of at least 5 different jobs/ careers. For example: Policeman, Doctor, Teacher, Sales Assistant… Find examples of the types of sentences that these professionals would say. E.G: Policeman: You’re under arrest. Challenge Task: Define the term idiolect and sociolect.

Week Three Challenge Task: Make a list of the sentence forms used: Watch the news and a soap opera of your choice. Make a note of the different ways the presenters and the characters speak. Write down the sentences they say. Next to the sentences, make a comment on the formal or informal use of language. Which uses Standard English? Challenge Task: Make a list of the sentence forms used: Declarative, interrogative, exclamatory or imperative.
