So what shall we talk about? What is resilience? Share experiences Practical strategies Create a definition for today Audience share what they do now in their setting Me share practical strategies that I’ve found to be highly effective CDI Conference December 4th 2017 Copyright Dave Cordle 2017

CDI Conference December 4th 2017 Copyright Dave Cordle 2017 How Are You Listening Talk about filters. All use them All have stuff going on (calls to make, things to remember, etc) Invitation to put that outside the door for 50 minutes (you can collect it on the way out) Listen with “how can I use this myself and with my clients” CDI Conference December 4th 2017 Copyright Dave Cordle 2017

CDI Conference December 4th 2017 Copyright Dave Cordle 2017 What is Resilience? What does it mean to you? A dictionary definition noun 1. the capacity to recover quickly from difficulties; toughness. 2. the ability of a substance or object to spring back into shape; elasticity. What does resilience mean to you? Pairs and shares/flip chart: what does it mean and why is it important? –Do it like a BeCol Dictionary definition – note how this reflects what we talk about in work/business/study/life CDI Conference December 4th 2017 Copyright Dave Cordle 2017

What does resilience do for you and your clients? Less stress Less days lost Health benefits Better productivity Better results for the individual and organisation Here’s a few thoughts to get us going Who teaches this stuff in their setting? – what benefits do you notice / perceive (Flip Chart) When is it appropriate? (mention J2S) – Ask what settings people are from (Ed, biz, etc) What are your favourite techniques? What are your favourite strategies to increase resilience? CDI Conference December 4th 2017 Copyright Dave Cordle 2017

Three things to improve resilience Mindsets and attitudes Mindfulness / meditation Asking good questions Talk about each in turn and give examples Create new slides, 1 for each CDI Conference December 4th 2017 Copyright Dave Cordle 2017

Mindsets and Attitudes I am in charge of my mind and therefore my choice of action and re-action in any situation What you focus on consistently you tend to create Focus on this one: What do the audience think? Points – - emotions chemically wash through us in 30-45 seconds. There to tell us something, but after that time, it’s a choice Recognising that you have a choice can be transformational: Communication model: Filters produce our IR. UCM makes us consciously aware of things we need to be aware of IR can be seen in our physiology which “tells” our mood and affects our results. ... Ref and possible do an exercise on the Amy Cuddy stuff. We can increase resilience by practices that focus us on the good things we already have ....gratitude for example. ....noticing and changing our self-talk ...leads to next slide CDI Conference December 4th 2017 Copyright Dave Cordle 2017

CDI Conference December 4th 2017 Copyright Dave Cordle 2017 Asking Good Questions Talk about the energy of emotions (Dr David Hawkins – Power vs Force What would I rather have? How can I make this better? Living in the question: how could it be any better than this? CDI Conference December 4th 2017 Copyright Dave Cordle 2017
