But it helps to have an idea of which areas you are likely to want to pursue before you start getting work experience, so you know what type of experience will be useful and which skills you might need to develop If you don’t know what you want to do, then you can get information and inspiration by meeting and chatting to employers or alumni at one of our 250+ on-campus careers events this year. If you do know what you want to do, then these events are also a great way to start building or growing your network. You can also start to research different types of jobs online through the Careers QM+ which has industry guides to different sectors – or the Prospects website, which has 100’s of online profiles describing different graduate jobs. Finally, you may find it useful to talk to a CC about your ideas and options in a 1-2-1 confidential careers appointment.

Examples include: being a Course rep or active society member Volunteering through QMSU Being a UK student recruitment ambassador of WP student ambassador Green Mary Student Group – opportunities to get involved in projects and campaigns and to take on positions of responsibility like being a Green Mary Ambassador or a Green Impact Project Assistant Enactus (Social Enterprise Project Management and Volunteering) - lead a team of students or volunteer working on a social enterprise project benefiting the local community. There are loads of things you can do, so pick something that you’ll enjoy! Our work experience hub has links to a lot of opportunities. The QMSU website is also a great place to look for this information.
