Why? Why the need for a Grade 7 Programme Bridge The Gap Some observations about incoming Grade 8s Take long to adjust to HS & the new work ethic Come with different levels of Maths Assessment standards vary at feeder schools Curriculum coverage varies

What did we do? Started classes 3 Sept - Start Admission at the beginning of July – Target Grade 7s destined for ESS Interviewed each learner & parent Focus on Maths & Reading Started classes 3 Sept - 12 Lessons – Saturdays Revise Grade 7 concepts Start with introduction of simple Grade 8 material, building on from Grade 7

What did we do…continues Wrote a Maths & English test in week 12 Parents & Learners handed back their assessments at the Orientation Programme

What were the benefits? Knowledge gaps filled Learners familiarised with: teachers school layout learners from other schools Introduced to the high school work ethic

Our Camp-Out First week of the academic year – school arranges a CAMP-OUT Focus on: team Building, socialising, sports and life skills activities, and guest speakers

What did we learn? Learners adapted far quicker to high school environment Fear of high school Maths slightly reduced
