Medical Management of Symptoms

Understanding Provider Role in Treating Depression NURSING – Levels of Practice Texas Nursing Practice Act: Scope of Practice for unlicensed, LVN, RN, and APRN. Standards specific to RN: Utilize a systematic approach to provide individualized, goal-directed, nursing care by: - Performing comprehensive nursing assessments - Making nursing dx that serve as basis for strategy of care - Develop plan of care based on assessment and nursing dx - Implement and - Evaluate responses to nursing interventions All within the context of SAFETY!

Considerations when Interacting with Clients SAFETY “Therapeutic Relationship” Advocate STIGMA

Goals & Related Interventions (examples) Patient will report feeling well rested. ------------------------------ 2. Patient will engage collaboratively with the treatment team in the management of medication. Interventions: 1a. Provide sleep hygiene information. 1b. Encourage the patient to participate in the sleep enhancement psycho-educational group. ----------------------------------------------------------------- 2a. Provided individual medication education in oral and written formats. 2b. Encourage patient to raise questions/concerns related to medication 2c. Assist patient with the identification of possible barriers to taking medication as prescribed. 2d. Patient will discuss any addition of OTC or adjunctive therapies.

Measuring Outcomes/ Success As evidenced by patient’s self-report of feeling well-rested in the morning and congruent with the report of activity from night rounds. As evidenced by the patient verbally describing his/her self- administration of medications as prescribed or in the event there are variations, he/she will initiate notification of barriers, challenges or questions related to possible side effects.
