The Hundred Years’ War Use Textbook to complete the following Who- Why- What- (inventions) When- Where- Important People- Effects-

Hundred Years War 1337-1453

The English king claims the French crown The French King dies The English king claims the French crown

French nobles rally against the English

The English win the first major battles

The English have the Longbow It can shoot three times as fast as the French crossbow and can pierce armor

The French morale is very low

A 17 year old girl visits the leading French noble Joan of Arc convinces the King to allow her to lead his armies

Joan inspired the French troops The French begin to win battles

Joan is captured by the English She is offered to the French King for a ransom

The French King deserts Joan The English try Joan as a witch

Joan is convicted and executed She becomes a martyr for the French

The Church makes Joan a saint

The French take the offensive They have a new weapon called a canon

The French take over Normandy

The English Parliament becomes more powerful The King has to ask Parliament to raise funds for the war

The English lose Normandy so begin to search for new overseas lands to control

The Longbow and Canon make the Knights and Castles disappear

Castles can not repel canons
