+ PROS and Cons – of Electronic Socializing Partner Share Take one minute and talk to the person next to you. What are the pros and cons of being social on-line? + PROS and Cons – of Electronic Socializing

Intentions Sometimes when our communication is not clear it can be hard to decide what someone means and it is easy to misinterpret or misunderstand the message. Example Text: “I can’t believe your parents bought you a new Jeep! I HATE YOU! What is the intended message?

Definition of Cyber Bullying Cyber Bullying is when one or more people use electronic technology to harm, harass, intimidate, or exclude someone. Unfortunately, some people have found that using technology to bully and harass others is easy to do. They do it with the intent to make others feel bad. The bully may feel powerful because they can do it from a distance or anonymously. Even one act of Cyber Bullying can have long-lasting effects. It can also result in the bully being charged criminally and may have consequences at school.

Experiences With Cyber Bullying How many of you have had an experience with Cyber Bullying? Let’s listen to one girl’s experience about doing Cyber Bullying.

Conclusion Cyber Bullying can affect you even if it’s not happening directly to you. The on-line world is a community, just like our school is a community. If any form of bullying is accepted as normal in our school, it makes our school an unsafe place for everyone. In the same way, if bullying is accepted in cyberspace, it makes being on-line unsafe for everyone. You can choose to be part of the problem or part of the solution whether you are in your “real’ community or the “cyber” community. What are some of your ideas to live in safe communities?
