The Final Lesson Learning objective: To evaluate what areas to revise and prepare yourself for exam.

Today Review your mock exams and make a target/plan for your revision Look at key ways to increase marks in the exam Media awards. Coursework release sheets Don’t forget: revision session today afterschool

Which questions did you find harder. Which were easier for you Which questions did you find harder? Which were easier for you? What were sticking points? What were you unsure of? Remember: The website has LOADS of revision help and a link to your revision Googledrive.

Spend 5 minutes to read through your answers, and create a plan using the worksheet. Let’s start with AA As you look through your exam papers, take note of what colours you’re seeing in each section. A colour means more attention to that area is needed. Use more media language and keywords Expand your point more, explain why or how. Ensure you answer the question clearly. OR Analyse more to ensure question is answered. Describe your examples more. Make it easy for the examiner to understand. Add more examples to explain your point Learning objective: To evaluate what areas to revise and prepare yourself for exam.

Whilst the video is on…… SOUND EDITING Camera work M-E-S

Question 1 - conventions Missions, not spies….. Race against time, not car chase. Exotic location – what tells you that? Protagonist – many said damsel in distress…..is that the case? Lots of you talk about the character – GREAT WORK, rather than describe it as “he, she”. This is mature writing and will increase your marks. Exam board was looking for: heroine/hero, villain, mission or chase , exotic location, jeopardy, peril, danger, suspense, race against time, spectacle, sidekick (Nancy or Aldo)

Question 2 – Effect created by media textual analysis ALWAYS refer back to the effect on the audience: Adding lighthearted, comedic moment during a time of peril/danger which keeps the audience engaged and intrigued by the piece. OR The non-diegetic music adds tension to the audience by________ Soundtrack doesn’t just mean music…..USE KEYWORDS. Editing: DON’T talk about sound here UNLESS it’s to say “as the music changes the transitions are in time with this, using cutaways or jumpcuts”. M-E-S…..lots of concentration on costume. What else? What does shots of Rome do for the audience? Camerawork – was only one extreme closeup of the speedometer. Rest was close ups, long shot, over the shoulder or tracking shots.

QUESTION 3- REPRESENTATION Use the video time to think of representations. MAKE SURE you use the word stereotype or stereotypical AND countertype in your answer. Interesting answers of what you see for gender representations……make sure you back it up with examples. (otherwise it’s just assumptions or a grudge!) May be worth STARTING with this question.

Representations the stereotypical representation of non- Americans/foreigners as threatening (De Luca) the anti-stereotypical representation of spies as unglamorous the stereotypical representation of Italy in terms of Roman tourist icons the extract stereotypically shows the Americans' perspective Candidates might comment on: anti-stereotypical representation of the world of work and spying as female (the spy, her assistant, her boss are all women) the stereotypical representation of Italian males as sexually predatory the stereotypical representation of the English as eccentric the stereotypical representation of Americans as 'normal'

TV COMEDY Question 1 ALWAYS on scheduling and keeping to the brand. LEARN and use keywords. LOTS of watershed but not a lot of others. LEARN what exact channel it was on and WHAT channel is it on now? E.G – NMTB Mondays BBC2 10pm, now on DAVE Sundays 9pm(Flagship time for DAVE). Question 2 – ensure you’re writing about 4+ audience pleasures. LEARN THEM. NOT JUST COMEDY!! Use examples. Superiority, Audience participation, familiarity (characters, presenters, events, catchphrases), relatable characters (or events), use of celebrities (Star power), warm mode of address (positive and easy to watch), intertexuality, regular timeslot and regular format, narrative (you want to know how it ends), unpredictability (live show, anything could happen!).
