Carlos Santana By: Jacob Vieira

Life The son of a violinist, Carlos Santana was born in Autlán de Navarro, Jalisco, Mexico on July 20, 1947. The Santana family moved to San Francisco in 1962, where five years later Santana formed the Santana Blues Band.

How he achieved fame He achieved fame by playing in clubs in San Francisco. He also played at woodstock to 500,000 fans then they appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show. Then they signed a contract with Columbia Records. Its first album climbed to the top of record charts.

How did he contribute to society He contributed to society by founding the Milagro Foundation, which helps disadvantaged youth through grants and donations, such as the donation of dozens of electric and acoustic guitars for students at Little Kids Rock. He also founded the Amandla AIDS Fund, part of Artists for a new South Africa.

How was his life remarkable His life was remarkable because he plays a unique style that was rock and jazz mixed. Also he was the first Hispanic American in the rock and roll hall of fame.

How did his mentor help his first producer and mentor was Davis, the president of Arista Records. Davis enlisted a roster of prominent musicians among them Eric Clapton, Lauryn Hill, Dave Matthews, and Wyclef Jean to perform on the legendary guitarist's 35th album, Supernatural, released in 1999.
