Employment Services for HOH Sponsor: Opportunities Fund for Persons with Disabilities Objective: The Opportunities Fund is a program designed to help people with disabilities prepare for and obtain employment or self-employment. It also assists people to develop the skills they need to keep a job The Government of Canada has spent $30 million a year through the Opportunities Fund for Persons with Disabilities since 1997 11/12/2018

Employment Services for HOH Program includes: Understanding your hearing loss Information on hearing technology Helping you integrate into the workplace through accommodation services that meet your needs Educating and encouraging potential employers to provide equal opportunities for people with disabilities (HOH persons) 11/12/2018

Employment Services for HOH Who is eligible? HOH or oral deaf persons who uses speech as their primary mode of communication The unemployed or those working less than 20 hours per week or those facing an employment crisis A person who is legally entitled to work in Canada Not EI eligible for the past three years 11/12/2018

Employment Assistance Services for Hard of Hearing Job Seekers Program includes employment facilitation on a personal basis in our office. Follow-up through MSN Messenger or Skype is also available The major part of this program includes a series of skills enhancement modules customized for the hard of hearing participant which can be offered individually or in groups. Employment Facilitator Edmonton, Alberta Cindy Gordon has been a Rehabilitation Practitioner for 25+ years and has worked with a multitude of disabilities. The past eighteen years have focused on hearing loss. Cindy has been hard of hearing since youth, and pioneered peer-to-peer counselling, at Hard of Hearing Resource Services at the University of Alberta (1990). She is actively involved in the Hard of Hearing Community and received the 2004 Alberta Premier’s Council “Gary McPherson Award of Excellence” for her leadership work on issues of inclusion for persons with disabilities. Cindy is certified in Audiometric Technology and Conflict Resolution.  She has been facilitating cross disability workshops for the last 13 years, and Your Third Ear (aka Help is Hear) for the last 8 years. more… 11/12/2018

Employment Facilitator Kelowna, British Columbia Leslee Scott has been hard of hearing since birth. Leslee graduated from the University of British Columbia with a BA in Sociology and Bachelor of Social Work. She worked as a Vocational Rehabilitation Counsellor and a General Social Service Worker in London Ontario in the ‘80s before returning to home of BC to work at the Western Institute for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (WIDHH) in Vancouver. She received her masters in Special Education with a concentration in Career Counselling from University of Alberta in 1995. She developed YOU are a Leader! a training manual for hard of hearing youth for the CHHA National office. more… 11/12/2018

Employment Facilitator Ottawa, Ontario Nicole Synowski has a bi-lateral hearing loss and wears both a hearing aid and a cochlear implant. Born and raised in Ottawa, Nicole is a member of a family with congenital hearing loss. Nicole is a graduate of Algonquin College in Ottawa and has started her studies in Psychology at Carleton University. Nicole has previous experience as a Daycare Teacher, Home Support Worker for senior citizens and Coordinator for specialized childcare programs, Behavioral Counselor and Department Manager, with a major retail operation. more… 11/12/2018

Employment Facilitator St. John’s, NL Kelly White has worked in community development for approximately 20 years.  She graduated from Memorial University with a Bachelor of Arts in 1993 and also has a Certificate in Business Administration from Memorial University. Kelly has worked and volunteered with several organizations both in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Calgary, Alberta.  Kelly started as an Employment Facilitator with CHHA in March 2008 and enjoys helping hard of hearing participants with career development and employment . 11/12/2018
