Classroom Guidelines (Rules) Mrs. Nicholson’s 6 Grade ELA Class

Guideline # 1 Be in your assigned seat and working on the assigned bellwork when the tardy bell rings.

Guideline # 2 Bring all books and materials to class and take them with you when you leave.

Guideline # 3 Treat each person in this room with dignity (worth/honor) and respect (admiration/detail).

Follow ALL directions the first time they are given. Guideline # 4 Follow ALL directions the first time they are given.

Guideline # 5 Follow ALL procedures and policies as outlined in the Scarborough Model Middle School (SMMS) and Mobile County Public Schools (MCPS) handbook.

Special Guideline This classroom is a “Profanity Free Zone”, that means it is not welcomed in this room. Every thing I do is in your best interest, so please respect the “Profanity Free Zone” this school year!

Guideline Infractions (Consequences) The following are the steps that will be taken if guidelines are not followed.

Action Plan Continued Failure to return the plan will result in AFTER SCHOOL DETENTION ON FRIDAY (30 minutes)

Parent/Student/Teacher Conference 3rd Warning A conference will be scheduled with ALL team teachers, the student, and the parent/guardian.

Discipline Referral 4th Warning A discipline referral will be sent to administration to further evaluate the issue.

Severe Clause Any student who uses profanity, fights, damages school property (this includes property of the teacher and other students) will be immediately dealt with by administration.

Classroom Discussions/Procedures

Classroom Discussions Please participate! We want to hear what you have to say. Make all questions and comments relevant to the current discussion. If your questions is off the topic write it down in your journal and ask it later.

Classroom Procedures Bathroom Breaks We will only go during assigned times If there is an emergency RAISE 3 FINGERS in the air and WAIT for me to acknowledge you.

Classroom Procedures Turning in papers Place your papers on the top right hand corner of the desk to your left (top of the stack)

Classroom Procedures THE BELL DOES NOT DISMISS MY CLASS! Transitioning to the next class Step 3 Method Step 1 Remain in desk and gather All materials Step 2 Stand by desk quietly with materials in hand Step 3 Line up at the door starting with the row closest to the door NOTE: NO ONE IS TO WALK OUT OF THE ROOM UNTIL DIRECTED BY THE TEACHER.

Classroom Procedures Absence (excused/unexcused) Communicate with the assignment recorder to get any missed notes, handouts, and homework. Sign the homework sheet All make up work is to be complete during P.E. or Elective time with a written excuse from the coach or teacher.

Classroom Procedures If you have finished all daily classwork Work on unfinished/missing assignments Read a “choice” novel Update journal If study buddy is finished study over notes/vocabulary for up coming test quietly Complete tonight’s homework
