Introduction Definition: A pie chart or circle graph is a circular divided into sectors, each sectors each sector shows the relative size of each value. Example: Data necessary to complete graph: # of people who use their phone the most for either making calls, texting, checking the time, or playing games. This is probably the most important part of the graph, because if you don’t have this then you are unable to make the graph. http://www.webquest.hawaii.edu/kahihi/mathdictionary/C/circlegraph.php

Constructed Example Data Collection: Making phone calls: 1 Texting: 18 Checking the time 4 Playing games: 6 Explanation: after you have collected your data, open Microsoft Excel and plug in your data: . Then highlight all of your collected data. Once you highlighted your data click on the insert tab at the top of the screen. Then find the pie chart selection, once this is found click on it and select the first option. Once this is done, go to chart tools and click under chart layout and choose how you would like your data shown

Constructed Example Graph: Problem: If 18 people out of 29 people text, then how many people will text out of 160 people?

Synthesis Advantages: Some advantages to this graph include: It is a simple way to show collected data It is organized and easy to read Disadvantages: Some disadvantages to this graph include: Only gives data in percentages Doesn’t show how many people for each category

Constructed example Explanation: When hand drawling this type of graph it doesn’t take a lot of time and it can still look like you did it right. First you have to collect your data. Then you need to draw a circle, pretty straight forward, then you need to separate the circle into the correctly sized “slices”. After this you can color the pieces what ever color you desire, but make sure you correctly label the sections. And finally, add the title to your graph.
