(Off Like a Prom Dress) How We Used a Wiki to Manage Our Prom Expo Marcus Lacher Minnesota State Community & Technical College – Detroit Lakes

Who am I? – Why am I here? Instructor – Administrative Management Technology (Admin Support-on-Steriods) Detroit Lakes is a small campus with many commuting students I am trying to minimize the quantity of required F2F class meetings without being classified as a “Distance” course.

Enrollment What is a Prom Expo? Event Planning course Goals! Host local high school students (Prom Attendees) Sell booth space to local vendors Goals! Authentic experience for students to administer an event on-campus Expose area high school students to our campus Enrollment

To the Rescue!

Why a Wiki? A wiki allows multiple disparate users to collaborate on a project using a web site 24x7 Allows class to meet outside of physical time/location Popular for commuting students No software to download Internet-based (Web 2.0) Free for educators (PBwiki) Easy WYSIWIG editing

Our Wiki … (Demo) © Marcus Lacher 2008 - marcus.lacher@minnesota.edu

Demo Notes Our Wiki was created with PBwiki 1.0 This version allowed access to the wiki via a password. SPARTANS08 The 2.0 version changes the access procedure to require an invite to an email address. The navigation on our wiki is aided by the use of the Sidebar navigation tool. The Recent Activity & Page Information allowed to track student participation
