II. The Warren Court Although Earl Warren did not have a positive track record on civil rights when he was in California, when he became Chief Justice that all changed. II. The Warren Court They ruled on voting rights regarding district boundaries and population numbers in the districts. Expanded rights for people accused of crimes; required all police agencies to obtain search warrants, provide attorneys, and protection during police questioning. III. The Kennedy Assassination The push for civil rights made Kennedy unpopular in the South, so he traveled to Dallas to boost his standing there. He drove in a convertible to try to connect with the people, which made him a target when the car drove past the Texas schoolbook depository building.

III. The Kennedy Assassination Lee Harvey Oswald was caught within hours, and when he was being transferred two days later Jack Ruby shot him and killed him. A commission was called to investigate the assassination, and it was headed by Earl Warren.
