Mobile navigation service for the visually impaired (and others) December 2006 An E-adept project, Swedish National Post and Telecom Agency

Project information Project initiated by the city of Stockholm First prototype completed October 2006 User tests in Stockholm November 2006 Overwhelming feedback from users! Technology used: Nokia Symbian series 60 phones Standard consumer GPS Advanced software filtering techniques used to improve precision in GPS positioning Communication with GPS via Bluetooth Route planning based on local road database walking path network Communication with route planning server via GPRS/3G network Speech synthesis engine from Acapela

Phase 2 December 2006 - May 2007 Advanced positioning unit will be evaluated (Honeywell GyroDRM) to further increase precision in positioning and guiding User can choose level of information presented Free walking and guiding along path without need to plan a specific route Function to bookmark Points Of Interest Several options to plan a route Emergency alarm integrated Functions for indoor navigation integrated via RFID tags

We want to Create and install a demonstration applikation in many citys around Europe to show the concept Establish a standardised method how you implement a service. Establish a standardised way to create a local road base with full flexibility to connect different objects How? Take the Stockholm city modell as a foundation and implement parts of it in other Citys in Europe. Create a demoapplikation that can bee used on most standard smartphones. All work has to bee done in each city with local players Use a standard format to value the user experince.
