Why standards are needed ? Benefits from the digital twin for : Design process Manufacturing Plant layout Maintenance From the digital mockup to the digital twin : More data More info systems More teams Longer time for archiving Need for interoperability through a format independent of the originating IT for… Sharing data Exchanging data Retrieving data Reusing data

STEP AP 209 : Multidisciplinary analysis and design AP 209 is a ISO standard for sharing, exchange, retrieve and reuse of information between the iterative design and analysis stages of the product life cycle. All AP 242 (Managed Model Based 3D Engineering) is a subset of AP 209 Functionalities covered today by AP 209 (ed2): Product definition Product structure and 3D shapes Configuration control information Material specifications & properties CAE disciplines Finite element data (linear statics and modes) Computational Fluid Dynamics (based on CGNS Std.) Kinematics analysis

STEP AP209 : CAD to CAE Shape Management STEP AP209 supports the management of: Nominal Design Shape (Original CAD Geometry) Idealized Analysis Shape(s) (Processed CAD Geometry) Analysis Shape(s) (FEA meshes) STEP AP209 supports Product and Analysis Structures Each with their own versions Can be related to each other All you want to know at : http://www.ap209.org/ Allows Analysis to revise Independently of Design Part Analysis Analysis Design Version Relationship Assembly Part Version Analysis Version Design Documents Analysis Documents Nominal Design Shape Idealized Analysis Shape Analysis Model Shape

LOTAR project “On A Page” <Titel> LOTAR project “On A Page” LOTAR is an international consortium of Aerospace manufacturers Prime objective is creation and deployment of the EN/NAS 9300 series standard for long-term archiving and retrieval of digital data, based on standardized approaches and solutions. Seven LOTAR Working Groups at present The objective of the LOTAR EAS Working Group is to develop, publish and maintain standards-based mechanisms for archiving and retrieval of Engineering Analysis and Simulation information that can be read and reused throughout the product lifecycle, independent of changes in the Information Technology (IT) application environment originally used for creation.

The “round-trip” of an EAS Archive to/from Long-term Storage <Titel> The “round-trip” of an EAS Archive to/from Long-term Storage Archive Source system Retrieve and validate Recovered FEA for review or reuse Pass Yes Is the recovered FEA functionally equivalent to the original? CAE-Implementor Forum “On A Page” Joint testing forum hosted by PDES, Inc., prostep ivip, and AFNeT Composed of CAD and CAE vendors as well as translation and validation software developers providing STEP translators Closed group (sandbox) allowing implementors to develop and test new approaches in a trusted environment Main goals : Accelerate CAx translator development and ensure that users' requirements are satisfied Implement functionality for today's needs and identify functionality for tomorrow's needs Increase user confidence by providing system and interoperability testing Avoid roadblocks by establishing agreed upon approaches Ensure new functionality does not adversely impact existing implementations
