Converting Time MD.1

I can convert units of time. Learning Target I can convert units of time.

Units of Time Conversion Chart How many seconds are in a minute? How many minutes are in an hour? How many hours are in a day? How many days are in a week? How many weeks are in a year? How many months are in a year? How many days are in a year? Create the conversion chart together. Explain that like customary units, as you move up the chart, you are having smaller units of measurement. The smallest measurement of time is a second. The largest measurement of time we will be discussing is a year. In the same way that we converting customary units, we will use our time chart to convert time. We will be focusing on converting a large unit into a smaller unit, so we will be multiplying. Our conversions will be two step most of the time.

Our Goal 1.) 11 days = ____ hours 2.) 52 hours = ____ minutes 3.) 12 weeks = ____ days 4.) 4.5 years = ____ weeks 1.) 264 hours 2.) 3,120 minutes 3.) 84 days 4.) 234 weeks

Study Jams Follow along with the video. You will need to complete your notes as the lady in the video presents the information.

Watch Me Students hike for 2.5 hours. How many minutes are in 2.5 hours? How many seconds are in 2.5 hours?

Work With Me The basketball game is 2.75 hours long because of double overtime. How many minutes are in 2.75 hours? How many seconds are in 2.75 hours?

You Try & Check with Your Partner 1.) 4.56 hours = ______ minutes 2.) 4.56 hours = ______ seconds 273.6 minutes 16,416 seconds Find the difference. 20 – 18.92

Watch Me Beth is 6 years old. How many months are in 6 years? How many weeks are in 6 years? How many days are in 6 years?

Work With Me Jennie is 32 years old. How many months are in 32 years? How many weeks are in 32 years? How many days are in 32 years?

You Try & Check with Your Partner 1.) 4.7 years = ______ days 2.) 1.3 years = ______ months 3.) 7 years = ______ weeks 17,155 days 15.6 months 364 weeks Find the difference. 6.5 – 3.22

You Try a Few on Your Own 1.) Pedro stays at a friend’s house for 1.25 days. How many hours are in 1.25 days? 2.) A television commercial is 1.75 minutes long. How many seconds are in 1.75 minutes? 1.) 30 hours 2.) 105 seconds If the volume of a rectangular prism is 6.55 cubic kilometers, what would be the volume in cubic meters?

Are the statements True or False??? 1.) There are 195 minutes in 3.25 hours. 2.) There are 54 months in 4.5 years. 3.) There are 63 days in 9 weeks. True False How many pints are in 8 quarts?

Evaluate Me Tell whether each statement is True or False. 1.) 9 days = 220 hours 2.) 2 weeks = 14 days 3.) 132 minutes = 8,000 seconds 4.) 5.85 hours = 351 minutes 5.) 4.52 years = 5,424 months If you agree, say, “Ready to Roll!” If you disagree, drop the mic. 1.) False 2.) True 3.) False 4.) True 5.) False (Select this one as true. The error is that I didn’t place my decimal in my quotient. The digits are correct.)

Can you convert units of time? PROVE IT!! & Rock Group Work

Corner Work Take your clipboard and pencil to the corner you are assigned to. Sit in a circle. One person will pass out the tasks for everyone. Work together to complete the problems. You will have 10 minutes. When you have finished, submit the work to the tray. Then, pick up your exit ticket.

Exit Ticket 1.) 11 days = ____ hours 2.) 52 hours = ____ minutes 3.) 12 weeks = ____ days 4.) 4.5 years = ____ weeks 1.) 264 hours 2.) 3,120 minutes 3.) 84 days 4.) 234 weeks

Corner One Complete the table. One Minute = ______ seconds One Hour = One Day = ______ hours One Week = _______ days One Year = _______ weeks _______ months

Corner One Convert. 1.) 12 weeks = _____ days 2.) 56 minutes = _____ seconds 3.) 3.8 years = ______ months

Corner Two Complete the table. NOTE: These are not all of your time conversions. One Week = _______ days One Year = _______ weeks _______ months

Corner Two Convert. 1.) 12 weeks = _____ days 2.) 56 minutes = _____ seconds 3.) 3.8 years = ______ months

Corner Three Convert. 1.) 7.3 weeks = _____ days 2.) 5 weeks = ______ hours 3.) 21.6 hours = ______ minutes 4.) 7 hours = _____ seconds

Corner Four 1.) Tell whether each statement is True or False. A. There are 175 seconds in 2.75 minutes. B. There are 210 minutes in 3.5 hours. C. There are 168 hours in 7 days. 2.) An astronaut spent 1 year in space. How many hours is that? 3.) Emma’s plant grew 0.5 inch in one day. Suppose the plant continues to grow at the same rate. How tall will it be in 5 weeks? Justify your answer.
