Public works 2019 budget review

Mission Statement the city of dayton public works department strives to be a customer service driven, goal motivated, action oriented operation that provides essential public services promptly, efficiently and effectively.

Department overview 1 - FULL TIME PUBLIC WORKS SUPERINTENDENT 1 - FULL TIME LEAD MAINTENANCE WORKER 3 - FULL TIME MAINTENANCE WORKERS 1 - FULL TIME ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT 2 – PART TIME WORKERS 2 – SEASONAL WORKERS

Future staffing needs We are requesting 1 additional entry level staff member. Extra water testing, monitoring & adjusting Chemical feeds, – soon to be 3 wells. Additional reports and measurements and testing for Minnesota department of health. Additional maintenance items – balsam streetscape, Parkway maintenance in developments, City gardens. Storm pond maintenance and cleaning. Additional snow plowing. Additional mowing responsibilities

Budget Highlights Wages increased for new employee. Overtime wages: increased to 2017 level. Operating supplies: increased by $7,000. Street maintenance repair: reduced by $14,000. Gas utilities: increased by $9,000 due to new shop. Building & Structures: increased by $5,000. Park improvements other than buildings: increased by $5,000.

2017 – 2018 Achievements Stoneridge Disc Golf Course. Sundance Woods Playground. McNeil Ballfield Converted to baseball field. Reroof Activity Center/Fire Station 1. Stephens park accessible to public. Hired 2 solid members of staff. Riversbend playground installation.

2019 goals Install river hills park. Replace fencing at Stephen’s park. New staff hire. Replace roof at city hall. Gravel road improvements – 121st avenue, Vicksburg & Teakwood. New city signage to incorporate new branding. Crack sealing projects throughout the city.

Discussion Item As equipment for the Meters and mxu become obsolete, we will need to replace this equipment. Does the city absorb the cost or pass onto residents or shared cost between city and resident? Meter cost: $125.00 MXU Cost: $120.00
