Employee Spotlight of the Month Tangela began her career with OSFA seventeen years ago. As a Loan Processor, Tangela is responsible for working with Schools, Borrowers and Lenders. Tangela is one of the primary contacts for rejected loans, aggregate limit reviews, foreign school loans, defaulted loans and loans in pre-claim status. 2004-2005 State Program Appropriations 11/13/2018

ABLE Grant Program The Florida Department of Education, Office of Student Financial Assistance is pleased to announce the appropriation of $1.8 million to be used in the 2004-05 academic year for the ABLE Grant Program. This tuition assistance program was enacted in section 1009.891, Florida Statutes, by the 2003 Florida Legislature to assist state residents who choose to attend select independent postsecondary institutions. The 2004-05 ABLE Program allows a maximum annual award of $1,500. 11/13/2018

2004/2005 Interest Rates The new rates (rounded to the nearest hundredth) are as follows: Stafford loan repayment rates - 3.37% Stafford in-school/grace period rates - 2.77% PLUS loan rates - 4.17% Consolidation loan in-school/grace period rates - 2.88% Consolidation loan repayment rates - 3.38% 11/13/2018

Student Loan Default Prevention Chat Borrowers wanting to delay student loan payments due to economic hardship or other reasons will benefit from an interactive chat on Mapping Your Future (www.mapping-your- future.org) - a college, career, financial aid, and financial literacy web site. This "Student Loan Default Prevention" live chat event, scheduled for August 10, 2004 at 3 p.m. EST., provides a unique opportunity to receive information about preventing student loan default.Experts in default prevention from around the country will take part in the chat, during which participants will learn about: deferments and forbearances, the application process for deferment or forbearance, alternative repayment plans, and loan consolidation. 11/13/2018

Did You Know? OSFA is a proud member and sponsor of the FASFAA Organization. We also sponsor items behind the scenes, such as the “Be Cool, Go to School” brochure that was distributed this year. Our organization paid for both the printing and postage of this brochure and are excited to be involved with FASFAA in increasing early awareness throughout the state of Florida. We also have Karen Hurrell serving on the FASFAA Executive Board for the next two years. She will serve a dual role. She was elected FASFAA’s Region II representative and serve as the OSFA Liaison.
